The Department of Economics, Ramjas College cordially invites you for the “9th Annual Winter Economics Conference” for undergraduate students of Economics on 18th and 19th February 2011. The Annual Conference has emerged over the years as one of the most prestigious academic events in the University, involving mass participation from students as well as faculty members.


EVENT-I

Paper Presentation

The paper should be on one of the following two themes:
1.Can Industrial and Services sector solve the issues of unemployment in
India ?
2. The Government believes that a sustained 10% growth of the economy
is possible only when the Agricultural sector grows at 4%. What
challenges does the agricultural sector face in achieving the required
growth and reducing poverty and inequality in India?


Important Points
The paper must be of 3500-4000 words excluding tables, charts and
graphs
Font: Times New Roman
Line spacing: 1.5
Font size: 16 for headings; 14 for subheadings; 12 for text and 10 for
footnotes
The format of presentation is via POWER POINT SLIDES.
The papers will be graded in the ratio of 60-40 for papers and
presentations.
Last date of submission of papers is 1ST FEBRUARY,2011

EVENT-II

The Budding Economist

Round 1: Written examination on Microeconomics, Macroeconomics,
Quantitative Methods and Development Economics (including
Indian economy). 15-20 students would be selected for the
subsequent rounds on the basis of their scores in this test.

Round 2: The students shortlisted on the basis of round 1 will be required
to write a 1000-word essay on the following theme-“INDIA IN
THE WORLD TRADING SYSTEM: PRE- AND POST-ECONOMIC
REFORMS”. Reference to notes or any reading material shall
NOT be allowed while writing.Time provided would be 30 minutes.

Round 3: Economics Extempore- A Visual Round

Round 4: Interview-cum-interaction with a panel of experts.



EVENT-III

PANEL DISCUSSION

TOPIC- Managing External Imbalances and Global Crises


Important points
1. Students willing to participate in this event should form a team. Each
team will be represented by a team of 2 individuals representing a
particular country.
2. The panel discussion shall follow a country-specific format.
3. The teams should submit the position paper by 1st February 2011.
4. TIME ALLOCATION:
(1) Presentation of one’s position on the topic - 6 minutes
(2) Questions - 6 minutes
(One from each country and one from the house)
5. The participant teams shall be marked on the questions as well.
6. The panel discussion would allow a maximum of 8-10 teams.
